SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Oredigger volleyball team rallied from two matches down to upset No. 7 Marian to open pool play at the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Tournament 16-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-4.
Tech started slow in the first set falling behind 7-0 before losing the first frame. But the Orediggers started warming up in the second set finishing with 15 kills and a .424 hitting percentage.
Senior
Karina Mickelson kept the Orediggers alive with her best performance of the season. Mickelson had 16 kills in the first three sets and finished with 21. She had just one hitting error for a .606 hitting percentage.
The Orediggers took over in the final three sets outhitting Marian 13-11 in the third, 13-5 in the fourth, and 9-2 in the final set.
Tech finishing hitting .288 as a team and led in kills 61-50.
The Orediggers had nine team blocks while Marian finished with four.
Olivia Muir had 17 kills hitting for .261. She also had two blocks.
Taylor Henley had six kills hitting for .278 and five blocks.
Sydney Parks had seven kills and four blocks.
Maureen Jessop had nine kills.
McKenna Kaelber had 58 assists.
Michaela Hoffa led the Knights with 11 kills and a .304 hitting percentage.
Montana Tech faces Midland (Neb.) in their second pool play match tonight. The match is slated for 6:30 p.m. but matches are already running behind. The match will start 30 minutes after the previous match.
