DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Tech Cross Country teams both finished in second place at the Frontier Conference Championships at Beaverhead Golf Course.
"Definitely not the outcome we wanted but I'm proud that both of our teams went out there gunning for the win," said head coach
Zach Kughn.
"Finishing second on both sides is a massive improvement from our first year as a program finishing fifth on the men's side and fourth for the women a year ago."
Rocky Mountain's Sydney Little Light won the women's race and Carroll College was the top team. The Saints had a score of 37. The Orediggers score 48, Rocky was third with 61, and Montana Western finished fourth with 74.
Senior
Becca Richtman finished in second place in the women's race. Richtman had a time of 18:46.40.
Averi Parker took seventh place with a time of 19:26.10. Both Richtman and Parker earned All-Conference having finished in the top 10.
The remaining women's team scoring finished in a tight pack.
Carlin Manning took 12
th place with a time of 20:07.60; Lexi Ladoux was in 13
th with a time of 20:09; and
Hailey Nielson finished in 14
th with a time of 20:11.30.
The Saints also won the men's side with a team score of 38. Tech finished with 70 followed by Rocky with 75. Montana Western was in fourth with an 81.
On the men's side, Rocky's Jackson Wilson and Jackson Duffey finished in the top two spots.
Connor Aikins led the Oredigger men finishing in ninth place and earning a spot on the All-Conference team. Aikins had a time of 27:25.60.
River Sheppard finished in 12
th place with a time of 27:36.10;
Justin Morgan took 13
th place with a time of 27:37.30; and
Trystan Brewer was in 15
th place with a time of 27:44.30.
The Oredigger women were ranked No. 16 going into the conference championship. The women's team still has a chance to go to the national championship with an at-large bid, but now must wait for the time being. A team can receive an at-large bid if they are ranked in the top 30 teams nationally.
