BUTTE, Mont. – Montana Tech women's basketball dropped the Frontier Conference opener to Montana Western 83-65.
The Orediggers (6-5, 0-1) trailed 49-31 at the half. Tech started a rally in the fourth quarter cutting a 22-point lead down to 11 but ran out of time down the stretch.
The Orediggers shot 37.5% from the field and went 6 of 19 from three.
The Bulldogs had the hot hand shooting 49.2% from the field.
Tavia Rooney turned in a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rooney also had five steal, three assists, and two blocks.
Dani Urick had 13 points and three rebounds.
Brynley Fitzgerald had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Shainy Mack and Jenni Weber had 13 points each.
Montana Tech has their second conference game of the season Saturday when they travel to Rocky Mountain.
