Cross Country Teams Finish Second at Preview Meet

DILLON, Mont. – The Frontier Conference season in Cross Country started today with the Frontier Conference Preview Meet at Beaverhead Golf Course hosted by Montana Western. The Montana Tech women and men both finished in second place.

"Coming into this meet there were a lot of question marks about where we actually stacked up in our conference," said Head Coach Zach Kughn. "I think we found out we are right where need to be, but there is obviously more work to be done."

Carroll College finished first in the women's race posting a score of 35 with all five runners finishing in the top 10. The Orediggers were just behind the Saints with a score of 40 and Rocky Mountain took third with 61.

Senior Becca Richtman won the women's race finishing with a time of 18:43.20. Rocky's Sydney Little Light finished second at 19:12.30 and Carroll's Reghan Worley took third with a time of 19:22.30.

Oredigger Averi Parker took fourth with a time of 18:43.20 and Hailey Nielson was also in the top 10 finishing in eighth place with a time of 20:23.50.

Lexi Ladoux took 13th with a time of 21:27.20 and Carlin Manning was in 14th at 21:49.00 to round out the Oredigger scoring.

Carroll also finished first in the men's race with a team score of 37. The Orediggers finished with a 56, Rocky had 59, and MSU-Northern scored 77.

Rocky's Jackson Wilson and Jackson Duffey took the top two spots.

River Shepperd led the Oredigger men with a third place finish and a time of 27:55.60. Justin Morgan took eighth with a time of 28:27.80; Trystan Brewer finished in 12th with a 28:59.20; Connor Aikins took 16th with a time of 29:03.20 and Jon Hansen was in 17th with a time of 29:23.90.

"Both teams coming through in second was a huge step forward for us. We want to be competing for that top spot, but more so we want to be relevant on the national stage. Both teams were able to take down a team receiving votes in the national poll and now we know exactly what we need to do to get to where we want to be at the end of the season."

Montana Tech is slated to compete at the Montana Open next. The Montana Open is hosted by the University of Montana at the University of Montana Golf Course on September 24th.
