HAVRE, Mont. – The Montana Tech football team traveled to the northern most opponent at the coldest time of year for their final game. The frigid conditions didn't affect the Orediggers as they defeated Montana State Northern 49-6.
The Oredigger defense held the Lights to two field goals and just 41 passing yards while the offense outpaced Northern 371 yards to 191.
Tech (7-3) scored on their first possession when
Jet Campbell hit
Trevor Hoffman for a 38-yard touchdown. The score was Hoffman's sixth of the season and he finishes with 26 touchdowns for his career.
Campbell hit
Kyle Torgerson for the Orediggers second touchdown on a 28-yard strike. The senior quarterback finished the game with two touchdowns and 128 yards passing.
Torgerson caught two touchdowns in the first half.
Blake Thelen was on the passing end hitting Torgerson from 38-yards out. Torgerson finished the day with a game-high six receptions and 112 yards receiving.
Kaleb Winterburn had another big game rushing 23 times for 122 yards. Winterburn scored from 15 yards out in the second quarter and another score on a 4 yard touchdown in the third quarter.
The Oredigger defense got in on the scoring as well. Aleric Greil snagged a tipped pass and ran in it in from 25 yards out in the fourth quarter.
Tech intercepted Northern three times with Greil's pick-six. Ezra Gulwich had one and Angel Sanchez grabbed the other.
Naoki Harmer led the Orediggers with 13 tackles including two for a loss.
Brandon Morley had 10 tackles.
Zach Trumble had six tackles and a sack.
Mason Dionne had 127 yards on the ground for the lights.
Hunter Riley had 13 tackles for the Lights.
