BUTTE, Mont. - No. 19 Montana Tech opened their home conference schedule against Carroll College. The Saints pushed the match to the fifth set but the Orediggers came away with a victory 22-25, 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 15-11.
After the Saints (9-9, 1-1), the Orediggers cruised through the next two sets combining for 26 kills and just seven errors. Nine hitting errors by the Orediggers in the fourth set gave the Saints a chance in the fifth set.Â
Both teams finished with 57 kills but the Saints had 33 hitting errors to 24 by the Orediggers. Tech finished hitting .177 in the match while the Saints hit for .120.Â
The Orediggers, who lead the conference in blocking, had 17 blocking errors on the night finishing with eight stops at the net. The Saints had seven blocks.
Maureen Jessop led the Tech offense with 14 kills and a .136 hitting percentage.Â
Olivia Muir, Olivia Labeau, and
Kinnidi Willmore all had ten kills.
Taylor Henley had nine kills and two blocks.
Setter
McKenna Kaelber had a season high 50 assists in the match and a pair of solo blocks.Â
Olivia Caddy had 26 digs and
Sarah Hopcroft added 17.Â
Elizabeth Heuiser led the Saints with 21 kills finishing with a .255 hitting percentage. Katherine McEuen had 14 kills.Â
Hannah Schweichert had 54 assists for the Saints and Julia Carr had 40 digs.Â
Montana Tech (14-6, 2-0) hosts Rocky Mountain Saturday at 6 p.m. on Kelvin Sampson Court.Â
