Orediggers Wrap Up Arizona Trip With 3-2 Win Over Benedictine University-Mesa

Box Score MESA, Ariz.- The Orediggers wrap up their Arizona trip with a five-set win over Benedictine University-Mesa.

In a match that had several big swings in momentum (and points), the Orediggers will head home after fighting for a big win in Mesa and wrapping up a 2-1 road trip through the Grand Canyon State.

Montana Tech would dominate the first set, winning 25-13. Everything was clicking for the Orediggers in the first, they finished with 14 kills on 22 swings, hitting an incredible .545. They would tally three aces.

The tables would turn fast in the second. Mesa would hit .364 with 15 kills in the second, they would also add three blocks. While the Orediggers would only register four kills in the second, with five errors. The Redhawks would roll to a 25-13 win in the second.

The third set was far more.. "normal", a set that Benedictine would win 25-23. The Orediggers would lead several times early, but they could never pull away, leading by two, twice. The Redhawks biggest lead was five, at 20-15. From that point to the finish, the Diggs fought, and trimmed the lead to one, but the Redhawks were able to keep them at arms reach to go up 2-1.

The fourth set was back and forth, until the teams were knotted up at 11-all. The Orediggers would push the gas pedal through the floor and go on a four-point run, followed by a six-point run, and then end on the set on another four-point run. The Diggs would hit .348 in the fourth, and we would go to a fifth and final set.

The fifth set wouldn't see a run until the end. Tied up 9-all, the Orediggers would score six of the final eight points to take a 3-2 win.

Montana Tech (13-7, 6-2) had two ladies with double-digit kills, Kinnidi Willmore and Piper Jetter. Kinnidi marking 12 while Piper put down 10.

Rhys Layton continued her strong play with 41 assists in the match, and senior Jelena Jablanov tallied 15 digs.
For the Redhawks (14-4, 6-2) Kylie Bartel led with way with 17 kills, and 15 digs.

The Oredigger are back into Frontier Conference play on Thursday as they head to Dillon to battle the Bulldogs, 7:00 pm first serve.
