KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Montana Tech's football team bumped up a pair of spots to No. 13 in the weekly NAIA Football Go Rout Top 25, the NAIA national office announced Monday afternoon.
The Orediggers posted their second-consecutive shutout, a feat not accomplished by the Montana Tech football program since 1939, in Saturday's 38-0 whipping of Rocky Mountain College to earn the ranking.Â
Montana Tech (6-2, 3-2 Frontier Conference) earned 191 points in the weekly poll, tying them with Georgetown for the No. 13 spot. The Diggers earned a season-opening victory over Georgetown, 29-22, August 29.
Tech is one of five Frontier schools to check into the poll. The Diggers are joined by No. 4 Montana Western, No. 8 Southern Oregon, No. 21 Carroll, and No. 24 College of Idaho in the top 25.
The Orediggers will continue Frontier Conference play Saturday with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Arizona Christian.
Rating Methodology:
- The rating is rated by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences. Each conference is given one rater for every four schools in the league or division.
- The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each rater rates the best teams. A team receives 25 points for each first-place vote, 24 for second-place, 23 for third-place and so on through the list.
- The highest and lowest ratings for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) are removed. The team's rating will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the team appears on.
- Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered "receiving votes."
