BUTTE, Mont. -- Keeley Bake and
Michael Ure each scored 16 points to lead the seventh-ranked Montana Tech men's basketball team past visiting Cal Maritime, 102-58, Friday night in the Comfort Inn Fall Classic.
Connor Michaud and
Rhett Reynolds each added 13 points off the bench for the Orediggers (5-0), and
Hayden Diekhans chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.
Tech stormed out front in the early going with a 17-2 run. Ure hit a 3-pointer in the opening minute to get the Orediggers on the board, and the senior totaled seven points in the run. Bake knocked down a pair of 3s in the onslaught as well.
The Orediggers' lead grew to 27 by midway through the half, and Tech never looked back. Bake headed into halftime with a game-high 13 points, while Ure had 12 to go with four blocks in the first 20 minutes of play. Diekhans had all 11 of his points before the break as well. Tech led 55-23 at intermission.
Michaud highlighted the stat sheet in the closing stanza, scoring all 13 of his points after halftime as the Diggers extended their lead to as many as 50. Cal Maritime closed the game on a 9-3 run.
Josh Coulanges facilitated the Oredigger offense, dishing out a team-best seven assists, and
Ifeanyi Okeke grabbed seven rebounds to lead Tech on the boards.
DeAndre Minor led the Keelhaulers (1-2) with 14 points and seven rebounds.
No. 22 Lewis-Clark State defeated Carroll, 86-79, in the opening game of the Comfort Inn Fall Classic earlier in the evening. The tournament continues Saturday evening on Kelvin Sampson Court with Carroll and Cal Maritime tipping at 5:30 p.m. and LC State and the Orediggers in a rematch of the 2024 NAIA tournament second round at 7:30 p.m.
