BUTTE, Mont. -- Camdyn LaRance scored a team-best 19 points,
Hayden Diekhans was a rebound short of a double-double, and the ninth-ranked Montana Tech men's basketball team closed out the Best Western Tip Off Classic with a resounding 84-67 victory over Jamestown on Kelvin Sampson Court.
Diekhans finished the win with 13 points and nine rebounds, and
Brayden Koch and
Michael Ure joined him and Diekhans in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Ifeanyi Okeke rounded out the Orediggers' effort with eight points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
The Jimmies got the upper hand early in the game, launching a 9-2 run to start out and holding Tech to a 1-for-7 shooting effort off the jump.
Jamestown extended the lead to 14-6 before Montana Tech exploded. The Orediggers (4-0) uncorked a 23-4 run to take control, and Tech led 39-22 at halftime. Koch spurred much of the run. The sophomore went 3-for-4 from 3-point territory in the run and went into the half with a team-best 13 points. LaRance had 11 at the break.
The Orediggers thwarted a couple of Jamestown runs after the break, but the Jimmies never shaved the lead under seven. Tech extended the lead again late, pushing it to as many as 20 in the waning minutes. Ure and Diekhans led Tech in scoring after intermission with nine points each.
Anthony Walters led the Jimmies (1-2) with a game-high 22 points off the bench.
Montana Western topped Northwest, 84-65, in Saturday's opening game of the Best Western Tip Off Classic.
Montana Tech will play host to a tournament again next Friday and Saturday, this time the Comfort Inn Fall Classic. The Diggers will face off with California Maritime and Lewis-Clark State, and fellow Frontier Conference team Carroll College will trade opponents with Tech over the tournament's two days.
