Oredigger Crowned Frontier Conference Champion at Montana Open

Alyssa Jany captures Frontier Conference Title

HELENA, Mont.- The Montana Tech Track and Field team had a strong weekend in Missoula at the Montana Open. The men's team placed second in a packed field, and the women finished in third. (full story HERE)

It was a great day for the Orediggers as they had several athletes hit National Meet qualifying marks, and one Oredigger was able to bring home a Frontier Conference Championship.

With the Frontier Conference Championships only two weeks away, and the remaining meet held on a track without a steeple chase water pit, the Montana Open served as the Frontier Conference Championship for the 3000m steeplechase.

With a starting field of 13 athletes (9 of those Frontier Conference athletes), Alyssa Jany crossed the finish line in 3rd overall, in a time of 12:03.76 (not far off her PR of 12:00.30). She finished nearly eight seconds ahead of the fourth place finisher.

Alyssa will now have to wait a couple of weeks, to find out how many additional Orediggers will join her as Frontier Conference Champions.

This week Montana Tech will take part in the Trudnowski Invitational in Helena, on the 24th and 25th, then all roads lead to Butte for the Frontier Conference Championships on May 5th and 6th.
