Rams Take Down the Orediggers on Day Two of the Texas Two-Step Tournament

Montana Tech falls 3-1 to Texas Wesleyan

WAXAHACHIE, TX- Day two of the Texas Two-Step Volleyball Tournament got underway bright and early for the Orediggers of Montana Tech with a 9 AM matchup with the Rams of Texas Wesleyan.

The Diggs went 1-1 yesterday with a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana, and a 3-2 marathon loss to host Nelson University. The Rams were swept by the College of Idaho and pulled out a 4-set victory over Ave Maria.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle that had no sustained runs (the longest being a three-point start by the Rams) Both teams tallied 41 attempted attacks, the Rams landed 13 kills, while the Orediggers grounded 10. Those three kills are the difference in the first set, as the Rams won the first 25-22.

The second also went the way of Texas Wesleyan 25-23.

The Orediggers battled back and took the third set, 25-20. Montana Tech hit .441 in the third, marking 18 kills on 34 swings. Kinnidi Willmore accounted for seven kills in the third.

The Rams started the fourth set fast, racing to an early 8-2 lead. The Diggs would get within five, but never closer, as the Rams would take the fourth set, and the match, with a 25-17 win.

Tech was led by Kinnidi Willmore with 17 kills on 39 attempts while hitting .359. Piper Jette racked up 13 kills, and Olivia LaBeau tallied nine. LaBeau was also responsible for five blocks. Sophomore setter Rhys Layton accounted for 42 assists and four blocks. Emmy Green is credited with 15 digs, as well as a pair of service aces.

Texas Wesleyan was led by Makenna Gantt with 13 kills on 29 attempts. She also tallied 22 assists, and five digs in the match.

The Orediggers will close out the tournament against Bethel College (KS) this afternoon.
