Orediggers Travel to Havre to Extinguish the Sklights

Montana Tech takes down Northern 3-1

Box Score HAVRE, Mont.- Light the V! The Orediggers made the trip to Havre to extinguish the Lights 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 25-19).

Winning in the Armory is not an easy task. A year ago Montana Tech was 2-1 against the Skylights, winning at home and at a neutral site (Dillon), but the Lights got the win in the Armory. So the Orediggers board the bus back home, packing a little revenge from a year ago, and more importantly, packing up a conference win.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle with the teams getting to 16-all before the Orediggers blew the doors off. The Orediggers went on a 7-0 run to jump out to a 23-16 win. Senior Megan Benton accounted for three kills in those seven points.

Montana Tech controlled the second set from the start, leading by as much as eight. The Orediggers hit .195 in the second set and finished with 13 kills in the frame. The defense at the net was also solid in the second, as Tech stuffed four blocks.

Northern's offense got on track in the third set, going up 9-5 early, and ending the set on an 8-3 run to send the match to the fourth.

Montana Tech would win the first point of the fourth, and never look back. Northern would never have a lead in the fourth, and the Orediggers would go on to take the set and match.

The Orediggers (7-5, 1-1 conf.) were led by Megan Benton with 16 kills. Megan has been on a tear to start the conference season, accounting for a career-high 14 kills against Rocky in the conference opener. Olivia LaBeau finished the night with 13 kills while hitting an incredible .500. Alexis Umland also tallied 13 kills, while hitting .458, and Kinnidi Willmore finished with 11 kills in the match.

Sophomore setter Rhys Layon put up 51 assists in four sets, and three blocks.

Senior Jelena Jablanov led the Orediggers with 20 digs.

The Skylights had three players in double digits for kills, Alana Graves with 13, Macee Murphy with 12, and Jessalyn Chvilicek with 10.

Northern (5-6, 0-2 conf.) finished the match hitting .135, as opposed to Montana Tech's .266.

Montana Tech will be back on the road Saturday, as they travel to Helena to take on the Saints of Carroll College. First serve scheduled for 7:00 pm.
