Orediggers sweep the Argos in Great Falls

Box Score Great Falls, Mont.- After losing their first conference game of the season at home, the Orediggers have now won three in a row, all on the road. The latest coming Thursday night as the Diggs went to Great Falls and knocked off No.15 University of Providence 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-23).

The win for the Orediggers puts them in a tie at the top of the Frontier Conference standings with Providence, at 3-1.

In the first set, the Orediggers put together two timely runs. One to start the match, when they jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. The second came at the end of the match when trailing 18-15 the Orediggers went on a 10-3 run that gave them a 1-set to-none lead. The Orediggers hit 15 kills in the first, five of those from freshman Piper Jette.

The second set was controlled by the Orediggers, only trailing twice in a 25-22 win. The Diggs hit .257 in the second and finished the frame with 12 kills. The Argos kept them in striking distance right to the finish, hitting .220 with 17 kills in the set.

Errors, more specifically, timely errors really hurt Providence in the match, as they finished with 21 errors to the Orediggers 10.
The third set was a battle, the Argos jumped out to a two-point lead, leading 20-18 late. A kill by Kinnidi Willmore, followed by an ace from Emmy Green would tie it at 20. They would exchange points to a 22-all tie, when JJ would take over the serve. Jelena Jablanov the fifth-year senior would hit back-to-back aces to give the Diggs the lead 24-22. After an Argo timeout, Ella Cochran would get a kill for Providence, to pull within one. Piper Jette made sure they didn't get another chance as she hit her ninth kill of the match to give the Diggs a 25-23 win in third, and a three-set sweep on the road.

Tech would hit 40 kills in the match, with Olivia Labeau leading the way with 11, Kinnidi Willmore would get to double digits with 10. Jelena Jablanov would lead Montana Tech in digs with 18, and setter Rhys Layton had another great outing, putting up 39 assists.

The Argos had two ladies finish with nine kills each, Sadie Lott and Nina Janjic. Setter Bella Thompson put up 38 assists, and nine digs in the loss.

The Orediggers are back at home on Saturday when they will host the Bulldogs of Montana Western. The first serve is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
