BUTTE, Mont. -- Streaks are made to be broken.

And nobody was happier about it Saturday than the Montana Tech women's basketball program. The Orediggers topped archrival and No. 21-ranked Carroll College, 64-55, at home to snap a run of 23-straight losses and move to 2-1 in Frontier Conference play.

Montana Tech (11-5, 2-1 Frontier) got 20 points from Hadley Humphreys and 15 from Brooklynn Hankwitz in the victory. Liv Wangerin and Macy Mayer added nine apiece for the Orediggers, who led for most of the contest.

After Carroll took an early 3-0 lead, Montana Tech rallied with an 9-2 run to set the tone. The Saints (10-6, 2-1 Frontier) responded to take an 11-9 lead, but it was their last of the game. A Wangerin layup tied the game, Brooke Badovinac gave Tech the lead on the following possession, and the Orediggers led, 13-11, after the first period of play.

The teams played a back-and-forth second, and Tech took a 29-27 lead into halftime. Hankwitz led the Diggers at the break with seven points.

Tech locked down on defense in the third, holding Carroll to just eight points in the 10-minute span to maintain the lead.

The fourth was all Humphreys. The junior scored 10 points, shooting 3-for-4 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Wangerin added seven of her nine in the final stanza to help ice the game.

It was Montana Tech's first win over Carroll since February 28, 2017, when the Orediggers topped the Saints, 78-64, in the opening round of the conference tournament.

The Orediggers will return to conference play Thursday at 5 p.m. on the road at Montana Western.
