BUTTE -- Montana Tech's volleyball team lit the V again Saturday afternoon, topping Mayville State, 25-17, 25-6, 23-25, 25-23, to return to the win column in Frontier Conference play. 

Kinnidi Willmore put down a match-best 11 kills inside Valley Bank Arena, while Brooklynn Hayes led the back line with 18 digs, three assists, and an ace for the Orediggers. Rhys Layton made 20 assists, while Madison Biery made a team-best seven blocks. 

The Orediggers (12-8, 8-6 Frontier) cruised to wins in the first two sets. In the second, Tech started hot with a 7-0 run led by hot serving from Emmy Green. Layton then ripped off a serving stretch of 11 straight points to give Tech a 21-2 win. The host team looked well on its way to a sweep. 

But Mayville State (5-13, 3-10) rebounded in the third. Tech led 8-4 in the early going before the Comets rebounded to win the frame. 

The fourth was a dogfight all the way through. Tech trailed by four points, 12-8, and came back to tie the set at 14. After a 3-0 Mayville State run, the Orediggers pushed back to tie the set at 20. Tech did just enough to win the set and the match. 

Desidy Schwanke led the Comets with nine kills and 11 digs. 

Montana Tech continue Frontier Conference play on the road Friday at Dickinson State.
