HELENA -- Another week, another honor for a Montana Tech football player.
Junior kicker/punter
Casey Kautzman garnered the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference special teams player of the week award, the league office announced Monday with its full slate of weekly accolades.
The Butte native was a key part of the No. 6-ranked Orediggers' 49-7 throttling of MSU-Northern Saturday, kicking a pair of field goals and adding five more points-after-touchdown in the win. Kautzman also punted once, a 29-yarder that stuck the Lights at their own 10-yard line.
Kautzman kicked a field goal in each half of the victory. His first was a 26-yarder in the second quarter that made the score 17-0 in Montana Tech's favor, and Kautzman cashed in on a 34-yarder in the fourth quarter to bring the score to 41-7.
The junior, who transferred from Montana State prior to this season, is 7-for-8 on field-goal attempts and 31-for-32 on PATs in his first campaign as an Oredigger. More than half of his 25 punt attempts have put Tech opponents inside their own 20-yard line, and just two have gone for touchbacks.
Kautzman ranks fourth among NAIA kickers this season in points (52), sixth in made field goals, and eighth in made PATs.
The Frontier award is the first of Kautzman's career and marks the fourth time this season an Oredigger laid claim to the weekly special teams honor. Teammates
Levi Torgerson,
Nate Milanowski, and
Jace Thompson all previously won the award.
The Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference player of the week program is nominated and voted on by the league's athletic communications professionals.
Montana Tech, 7-0 for the first time in program history, will take a breather this weekend before returning to Frontier Conference East Division play Saturday, October 25 at home against Mayville State. The Orediggers will honor the Montana Tech Hall of Fame Class of 2025 at the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
