GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Montana Tech's cross country teams battled against some of the best teams in the country Saturday at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
The 17th-ranked Oredigger women cruised to a seventh-place finish in the stacked field at Grand Rapids' Riverside Park, led by
Kamryn Comba's 24th-place finish. The senior covered the 5-kilometer course in 18:31.0.
Classmate
Alyssa Jany came across the line close behind, finishing 26th in 18:32.6, while freshman
Mya Green also clocked into the top 40 at 18:49.9 for 38th place.
Freshman
Amy Broek (73rd, 19:09.0) and sophomore
Bella Bermingham (88th, 19:20.5) closed out the scoring five for Tech.
Freshmen
Kendra Jensen (117th, 19:38.1) and
Ryleigh Kleinke (162nd, 20:42.2) also competed for the Orediggers.
The Tech women topped a trio of ranked teams Saturday in host and No. 12-ranked Aquinas, No. 20 Carroll, and No. 22 Lewis-Clark State.
On the men's side, graduate student
Justin Morgan led the way with a seventh-place finish. He raced the 8k course in 24:32.3 to help Montana Tech to a 19th-place team result.
Senior
Ben Zerr crossed the line 65th in 25:32.2, followed by sophomore
Bryon Fanning in 119th (25:58.2), freshman
Michael Marlow in 123rd (25:59.4), and freshman
Noah Miller in 156th (26:35.2).
Freshmen
Tyler Inabnit (167th, 26:49.5) and
Layne Niemeyer (178th, 26:59.6) polished off the race for the Orediggers.
Montana Tech now looks ahead to the Frontier Conference championship meet, scheduled for Friday, November 7 in Billings.
