KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Following its first shutout of the 2025 season, a 51-0 victory over visiting Mayville State Saturday, the unbeaten Montana Tech football team remained atop the NAIA's Football Performance Index and checked in at No. 5 in the Netting Professionals NAIA coaches' top 25 poll, the national office announced Monday morning.
The Orediggers also leapt up a spot to No. 3 in the Massey ratings.
In the FPI — a data-driven metric that evaluates teams based on their wins and strength of schedule — Tech's rating of 31.13 put the Orediggers slightly ahead of No. 2-rated and defending national champion Grand View. Montana Tech has led the FPI in four of its five calculations so far this season.
Montana Tech remains the highest-ranked Frontier Conference team in the coaches' poll. No. 8 Carroll, No. 15 College of Idaho, and No. 20 Montana Western also received rankings, while Dakota State received votes. Grand View remained No. 1 in both the coaches' poll and Massey ratings.
The NAIA's Football Championship Series selection committee uses both the FPI and Massey ratings as criteria for the postseason; the coaches' poll is not considered.
The Orediggers, 8-0 for the first time in program history, will look for a ninth win on the road Saturday at Rocky Mountain. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:07 p.m.
