HAVRE -- Montana Tech's volleyball team dropped a 25-19, 25-14, 25-22 decision Friday evening at MSU-Northern.
Payton Treadwell led the Orediggers (16-11, 12-9 Frontier Conference) with 12 kills, hitting .310 for the match, to led the offense. Setters
Ellie Reinertson and
Rhys Layton combined for 37 assists, and
Brooklynn Hayes made a team-high 14 digs.
The two teams traded blows in the early going, resulting in a 17-17 deadlock midway through the first set. The Skylights finished the set on an 8-2 run for the early lead.
After winning the second set, MSU-Northern (17-11, 15-7) rushed out to a 6-2 lead to take control of the third. Tech cut the deficit to 12-11, but the Orediggers were never able to knot the score. The Skylights ran the score to match point at 24-18 before Tech mustered a late run. The Orediggers scored four straight points facing the end of the match before MSUN put it away.
The Skylights hit .308 for the match and controlled the net, making nine blocks to Tech's three. Lexi Jones set the pace for MSUN with eight kills and seven blocks.
Montana Tech will conclude the regular season Saturday afternoon at No. 1-ranked Providence. The match in Great Falls begins at 2.
