HELENA, Mont. -- The Frontier Conference named Montana Tech freshman
Matthew Moreni its men's indoor track athlete of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Helena native and Capital High School product had a record-breaking weekend at Idaho State's Stacy Draglia Open Friday, running a program-best 22.31-second 200-meter dash to finish second at the meet. It obliterated the Oredigger record in the event, besting it by a half-second.
Moreni also ran a collegiate best in the 60m dash, clocking in 13th at 7.13 seconds.
The freshman has been a big part of Montana Tech's early-season indoor track success, challenging school records in the sprints and also running a leg of the Diggers' record-breaking 4x400m relay, set last month at 3:20.07 at University of Idaho.
The Orediggers' indoor track & field teams will split the squad this coming week, sending a contingent both to Idaho State's Mountain States Games and to Spokane, Wash.'s The Podium for the Whitworth Invitational.
