HELENA -- Nine Montana Tech men's track & field athletes garnered All-Frontier Conference honors following the league's first-ever indoor championships, the Frontier office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The top three finishers in all conference-championship events earn the honors.
Four Orediggers — Jaxon Allery, Nicoló Lancini, Morgan McClernan, and Matthew Moreni — collected all-conference accolades in multiple events.
Allery, a freshman from Missoula, was all-conference in both the 60-meter and 200m dashes.
Lancini, a junior from Adro, Brescia, Italy, won the conference title in the triple jump and was the runner-up in the long jump.
McClernan, a senior from Butte, claimed the conference crown in the 60m hurdles and was part of Montana Tech's runner-up 4x400m relay team.
Moreni, a sophomore from Helena, took gold in the 200m dash and also raced on the 4x400m relay.
Five more Tech athletes — Konnor Gregerson (600m), Carter Henke (4x400m), Adam Schrader (4x400m), Cade VanVleet (shot put), and Ricky Williams (high jump) — were all-conference in one event. VanVleet was the conference's shot put champion, posting the NAIA's best throw of the season at a school-record 17.78m.
Bismarck State's Cayden Kraft won the most valuable athlete and track athlete of the meet awards, while Tysen Grinde of Dakota State and Ty Leischner of Dickinson State shared the field athlete of the meet honors. Dickinson State's Shayne Wittkopp won the Pepsi coach of the year award.
The all-conference honors come on the heels of the first-ever top-25 rating in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Track & Field Ratings Index, which was announced Tuesday morning. The Orediggers were ranked No. 24.
Montana Tech now awaits the announcement of the NAIA indoor championships field on Wednesday. The Orediggers will head to Gainesville, Fla., for the championship meet March 5-7.
