MARION, Ind. -- Montana Tech's track & field teams added a pair more All-America honors to its trophy case Thursday on Day 2 of the NAIA outdoor championships at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Cade VanVleet nearly broke his own school record in the men's discus on his way to a national runner-up finish, while Abby Clark posted a third-place finish in the heptathlon for her third-career All-America accolade in the multi event.

Clark, a senior from Fort Benton, got the day started for the Orediggers. She began Thursday's competition with a 5.38-meter long jump, good enough for fourth in the event and 665 points toward her tally and leaping the senior up two spots into third in the standings.

She then threw the javelin 30.07m for another 478 points and 11th in the field, and Clark finished the seven-event gauntlet with fifth in the 800m run. She clocked in at 2:28.13 in her two laps, taking fifth in the race and adding 717 more points to her total. Clark finished with 4,883 points in sum, just 78 points off the national championship.

It was the second time Clark's finished third at nationals in the heptathlon, matching her placement from each of the past two seasons.

VanVleet, a junior from Noxon, made the most of his second-career appearance in the discus on the national stage. He tossed the saucer 52.44m on his second throw to reach the final flight and then just missed his program record in the event on his fourth attempt, measuring at 53.10m to improve his hold on second place. It was his first-career All-America accolade in the event.

The pair of All-America accolades made it three for the Orediggers over the first two days of the national meet; senior Jenna Jordan was seventh in the women's javelin Wednesday.

Also on Thursday, freshman Ayla Janzen made her outdoor nationals debut in the women's triple jump. The Twin Bridges product leapt 11.04m to place 22nd.

The men's 4x400m relay — freshman Matthew Moreni, sophomore Adam Schrader, junior Morgan McClernan, and sophomore Will Wagner — clocked in at 3:21.80 to cap off the day. That time put the foursome in 32nd place.

Montana Tech's track & field teams will wrap up the 2025 season Friday on Day 3 of the NAIA championships. VanVleet will begin the action for the Diggers at 11 a.m. MDT in the men's shot put, followed by Nicolo Lancini in the men's triple jump at 11:30 and Clark in the women's high jump at noon.
