BUTTE -- Montana Tech's athletic communications department landed a couple of awards from the NAIA's Sports Information Directors Association's 2024-2025 Publications and Media Contest, the organization announced earlier this month.

Associate athletic director Mark Robertson's November story, "'Dream I didn't know I had': Vasquez savoring second collegiate career," recounting graduate student football player Trae Vasquez's journey from NCAA Division I wrestling to the Oredigger football program garnered fifth place in the Dr. Jack Bell Writing Contest.

External associate athletic director Paul Panisko and color commentator John Thatcher were selected ninth place in the Call of the Year category for their observation of Montana Tech men's basketball junior Brayden Koch's buzzer-beating 3-pointer to down No. 21 Lewis-Clark State, also back in November.

The honors mark Montana Tech's first recognition in the NAIA-SIDA Publications and Media Contest since the 2016-17 academic year, when the institution was recognized for its Facebook coverage of the athletics program's season.
