ASHLAND, Ore. -- Jarrett Wilson and
Levi Torgerson connected for four touchdowns, leading the No. 7-ranked Montana Tech football team to a 37-14 win at No. 24 Southern Oregon Saturday afternoon.
Wilson, the sophomore quarterback from Polson, completed 15 of 20 pass attempts for 321 yards and four scores — all to Torgerson — while also rushing for a team-best 50 yards. Torgerson's 222 receiving yards and four touchdowns were both program records. His yardage surpassed
Wyatt Alexander's 219-yard ballgame, a record set last September against College of Idaho.
Tel Arthur led the Oredigger defense with 14 tackles, including a pair of sacks. Tech's defense pitched a shutout in the second half.
Montana Tech (4-0) took control off the opening kickoff, driving 83 yards off the opening possession for an early lead.
Wykece Johnson topped off the possession with 2-yard touchdown run that gave the Diggers a 7-0 lead.
SOU tied the game on the next possession, but Montana Tech retook the advantage late in the first when Wilson hit Torgerson for a 74-yard TD strike. The Orediggers took a 13-7 lead into the quarter break.
Torgerson found himself open twice more in the second, and Wilson found him twice before halftime. The first was a 4-yard pass, and the second was 70 yards. Tech led 27-14 at half.
Montana Tech added a pair more scores in the second half — a 31-yard
Casey Kautzman field goal in the third quarter and a 43-yard pass from Wilson to Torgerson to seal the deal.
The Orediggers will return home Saturday, September 27 for a noon kickoff against College of Idaho in a battle of the final two unbeatens in the Froniter Conference.
