HELENA -- Nate Milanowski came up with one of the plays that ensured a victory for the No. 11-ranked Montana Tech football team Saturday at No. 25-ranked Carroll.
Monday, the Orediggers' graduate transfer earned the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference special teams player of the week award, the league office announced.
On the second play of the fourth quarter, Milanowski slipped through the Fighting Saints' line, blocked a punt attempt, and fell on the football at the opposing 6-yard line to set up a key insurance touchdown in the Orediggers' 30-19 road win.
It marked the first defining moment in the Grand Rapids, Mich. native's Oredigger career after he transferred to Montana Tech from Miami University (Ohio) this summer. A running back, Milanowski has also rushed for 14 yards over six carries in two games thus far.
An Oredigger has won the conference's special teams weekly honor each of the first two weeks of the season;
Levi Torgerson won the award last week following his two return touchdowns in Tech's win over No. 5-ranked Montana Western.
Saturday's win at Carroll was Montana Tech's fourth-straight against their archrival and the Orediggers' third-consecutive win over the Saints in Helena.
Milanowski and the Montana Tech football team will look to defend home turf and move to 3-0 Saturday against Rocky Mountain. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
