BUTTE -- Rhys Layton dished out 29 assists,
Kennedy Oman had six kills and two blocks, and the Montana Tech volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 sweep of Rocky Mountain Friday evening inside Valley Bank Arena.
Prior to the match, the Orediggers celebrated Layton and Oman as the senior class of 2027.
Talan Dodson led Montana Tech (20-5, 15-4 Frontier Conference) with 11 kills, while
Kenedee Moore collected a team-best 10 digs.
Montana Tech began the match in a dogfight with a close start to the opening set, but an 11-2 Oredigger run created separation as the home team ran away with the first set. Dodson put down six kills in the beginning frame, and
Payton Treadwell notched five of her eight kills in the opener as well.
The second began much the same. Rocky Mountain (6-19, 4-15) led 6-3 before Tech rattled off six straight points to take the lead. The Battlin' Bears fought back to tie the score at 14-14, but another Oredigger run, this one an 11-3 barrage put Tech squarely in control of the match.
Montana Tech left no doubt in the third, beginning the set on a 6-1 spurt and cruising to victory. Dodson spiked four more kills in the clincher.
The win kept the Orediggers in possession of second place in the Frontier standings. Tech will look to improve its position on the table Saturday with a 5 p.m. home match against Carroll.
