DILLON -- Asher Williams and
Justin Asi both topped the 20-point mark Saturday as the Montana Tech men's basketball team cruised to a 96-62 win over Park-Gilbert in the Montana Western Classic.
The Orediggers' offense was incredibly efficient in the win, shooting over 50 percent (32-for-62) from the field. The defense was just as intense, forcing the Buccaneers to a meager 25-for-70 shooting effort.
Williams led the way for Montana Tech (2-0) with 21 points, shooting 6-for-8 on the evening and 3-of-4 from the field. Asi added 20 points and five rebounds off the bench.
After falling behind 5-2 in the early going, the Orediggers mustered a 16-0 run to take control of the game. Tech later added a 10-0 run and put the game out of reach before halftime, leading by as many as 27 before the break.
The Orediggers led 47-22 at the half.
Paced by
Eli Quinn's 11 second-half points and seven 3s, Tech continued its dominance in the second half.
Quinn, a redshirt sophomore, finished with a career-high 14 points off the bench for the Orediggers.
Ethan Stack grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, and
Connor Michaud distributed four assists.
Montana Tech will make its home debut Friday at 7 p.m. against Westcliff on the opening day of the Best Western Tip Off Classic. Montana Western and Lewis-Clark State will square off in the other game that evening with tip scheduled for 5 p.m.
