MISSOULA -- Both Montana Tech's men's and women's 400-meter dash records fell and another Oredigger earned a trip to NAIA nationals Saturday as the Montana Tech track & field program enjoyed a banner day at the Montana Open in Missoula.
Adam Schrader headlined the day for Tech with a victory and an NAIA 'B' standard in the 400m hurdles. The junior went a personal-best 53.32 seconds in the event, the No. 21 time in the country.
Peyton Walker and
Konnor Gregerson knocked off the women's and men's 400m records, respectively. Walker ran to fifth in the women's race in 59.05 seconds, breaking Emily Ratz's 2023 school record. Gregerson was third in the men's race at 49.43 to top that record as well.
Schrader and Gregerson took part in another win as well, teaming with
Morgan McClernan and
Matthew Moreni to best the field in the 4x400m relay at 3:18.34. McClernan added the Orediggers' other victory of the day on the track, winning the 110m hurdles in 14.56.
The Tech women also put up some strong performances in addition to Walker's record-breaking performance.
Terryn Chirrick took second in the 400m hurdles in a personal-best 1:07.06, moving up to third on the program's all-time list.
Ayla Janzen was third in the 100m hurdles (14.88) and sixth in the triple jump (11.33m), and
Rylee Armstrong placed fourth in the long jump, clearing a season-best 5.58m, the No. 39 mark in the NAIA this season.
The Oredigger men totaled up 81.5 points to place second in the nine-team field, while Tech's women took fifth with 56 points.
It was the program's final tune-up prior to the Frontier Conference outdoor championships, which will take place next weekend in Dickinson, N.D.
