HELENA -- Asher Feddes anchored the Montana Tech defense in the Oredigger football team's season-opening, 48-0 thrashing of Ottawa (Ariz.) Thursday evening. 

Monday, the sophomore earned the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference defensive player of the week award for his efforts. 

Feddes, a linebacker from Belgrade, racked up six tackles and a key interception in Thursday's shutout victory. His six tackles were tied for the second-most in his career, and it was his first collegiate interception. 

The caused turnover came on the first play of the second half, setting up the first of two Oredigger touchdowns in the half's first 5 minutes that helped Montana Tech put the game out of reach. Led by Feddes, the Tech defense held OUAZ to just 117 yards of offense and eight first downs in the win. 

He is the first Oredigger defender to win the conference's weekly award since Tel Arthur did so September 22 of last season. The award is the first of Feddes' career. 

Dakota State quarterback Tray Hettick won the weekly offensive award, while The College of Idaho kicker/punter Josh Horn claimed the special teams honor. 

Montana Tech, ranked fifth in the NAIA's preseason coaches' poll, will remain home this weekend as No. 11-ranked Carroll visits Alumni Coliseum for a 1:05 p.m. kickoff.
