HELENA -- Montana Tech football senior
Christian Hansen would not let Carroll College keep the football on Saturday.
Monday, that earned the cornerback from Butte the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference defensive player of the week award, the conference office announced.
Hansen intercepted a pass, forced a fumble, broke up two passes, and made a team-high six tackles for the No. 5-ranked Orediggers (1-0) in their 24-14 win over No. 11 Carroll Saturday afternoon. Two of those tackles went for a Fighting Saints loss.
The Butte High product started his big day with a second-quarter tackle-for-loss that put the Saints in a third-and-long situation they were unable to convert.
After halftime, Hansen asserted his presence. On the third play of the second half, Hansen intercepted Carroll quarterback Kaden Huot, setting up the Orediggers' second touchdown of the game.
On Carroll's very next play from scrimmage, Hansen stripped the ball from Gavin Vandenacre.
Asher Feddes jumped on the loose ball, securing Hansen's second caused turnover in as many defensive plays from scrimmage.
The award is the first weekly honor of Hansen's career. He was a second-team All-Frontier East selection a season ago.
