Schlafke enters his second season as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for Montana Tech.
Schlafke comes to Tech after serving as the assistant offensive line coach at Southern Illinois University, an FCS program in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. He worked under Southern Illinois University offensive coordinator and former University of Sioux Falls head coach Kalen DeBoer.
Schlafke went to SIU after quarterbacking the University of Minnesota Duluth to the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championship. He was a four-time Jim Overlie Most Valuable Offensive Player Award winner with the Bulldogs, a three-year captain and led UMD to a 33-14 record. He started in all 47 games during his career, which set a new record at the school.
He distinguished himself as the school's only consensus All-American in 2008, as he was named to the Associated Press, AFCA and d2football.com All-America first teams. Schlafke also became the school's first quarterfinalist for the Harlon Hill Award, which goes to the most outstanding player in NCAA II Football. He finished fourth in the voting.
A native of Stevens Point, Wis., Schlafke set numerous offensive records at UMD, including passes attempted (1,692), completion percentage (.624), passing yardage (11,587) and touchdowns thrown (106). His 1,055 career completions set a new NCAA Division II record.
Schlafke received his bachelor's degree in finance and a minor in psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2008.
