Patrick O’Herron

Patrick O'Herron is entering his fifth year with the Oredigger basketball team and his third season as the Head Coach for the Montana Tech Orediggers.

O’Herron has the Orediggers moving in the right direction after just two seasons at the helm. Following the 2014-15 season, Tech finished above .500 (15-13) for the first time since the 1998-99 season. The Diggers finished just shy of the sixth and final playoff spot with a 6-8 Frontier Conference record. Montana Tech’s .429 conference win percentage was the programs best in over a decade. The Diggers also had their longest win streak in 15 years by winning eight straight and defeated three ranked opponents. Senior Adam Greger concluding his career earning NAIA All-America and first team All-Conference nods after averaging 18.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest.  

Patrick has spent the past 30 years achieving success as a player, official, scout, business owner, and coach. He played basketball in Southern California for Simi Valley High School, and then for Moorpark Community College. Following a successful two years playing for Moorpark, Patrick accepted a scholarship to California State University at Northridge and finished his playing career there.
 
Following his playing career, Patrick started a business called Hoop Knowledge which taught children the basic fundamentals of basketball. He then went on to be the Vice President of a sports agency called Hoosierdaddy Hoops. His duties there consisted of player development, scouting, marketing, and overseas relations. Patrick found out that his true passion was coaching basketball, and began his career in the professional minor leagues with the ABA's So Cal Legends. Patrick's coaching career has taken him to the USBL, CBA, and the LNBP in Mexico.

Patrick moved from Southern California to Butte to coach a CBA team called the Butte Daredevils. He was hired on as an assistant coach in 2006 and quickly moved to the head coaching position halfway through the first season. Most recently Patrick was hired as a scout and consultant for a professional basketball team in Korea, as well as working for sports agency's as a player development coordinator. Patrick was selected by the NBDL (NBA development league) and was one of 20 coaches at their 2010 national tryouts.

Patrick received his Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies with a thematic concentration in Communication in 2010 from Montana State University of Billings.
 
Patrick is married to his lovely wife Terri and they have four beautiful children, Brittney, Ericalyn, Patrick Jr., and Kaylee. They have resided in Butte and love the people and the community.
