Tech Dims Lights

Butte – No. 8 Montana Tech showed their defensive prowess against MSU-Northern Saturday afternoon for their seventh win in a row. The Orediggers shut down the Lights 21-13.

The current seven-game winning streak is the longest since 1997. The Orediggers improve to 7-1 on the season.
Northern's year is about over as they fall to 2-6. This is the first win for head coach Chuck Morrell against the Northern Lights.

Tech did all of their scoring in the first half taking a 21-6 lead into half time. The Lights scored their only touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but the stingy Oredigger defense ruled the game.

Both teams were almost even on offense. Tech totaled 310 yards to Northern's 306.

Montana Tech defense had seven sacks on the day and 11 tackles for a loss. Senior Nate Koblod ended the game with his second interception of the day. His first interception in the first half was returned to the two-yard line which set up Pat
Hansen's lone rushing touchdown of the day.

Tech's sack leader Jake Workman took the quarterback down three times. Junior and Butte native Mike Waldman had two sacks in the game.

Senior Joe Semansky had 14 solo tackles in the game and 16 total.

Senior Keke Frank broke up six passes in the game in addition to four tackles.

Montana Tech scoring came in two passes and a rushing touchdown.

Nick Baker connected with Trent Thomas on their first drive of the game for a 15-yard touchdown.

Baker's second touchdown of the afternoon was at the beginning of the second quarter hitting Zack Kinney in the corner
of the end zone for an 8-yard strike.

Northern's loan touchdown was a Derek Lear pass to Kyle Johnston with 4:17 to go in the game.

Trevor Baum had two field goals in the first half.

Baker completed 18 of 35 for 197 yards.

Senior Trent Thomas led the Diggers in receiving catching 6 balls for 65 yards.

Montana Tech is home again next weekend when they host I-15 rival Montana Western at 1 PM.
