Dickinson, ND – No. 13 Montana Tech showed their ranking is well deserved. The Orediggers cruised to a 42-6 victory over the Dickinson State Blue Hawks.
Tech (5-1) picks up their fifth win in a row and retains the best record in the Frontier Conference. This is the longest win streak for the Orediggers since 2004.
Dickinson State (1-5) loses their third straight game.
Montana Tech came out swinging on the first drive scoring on an
Alec Bray 28-yard touchdown pass from
Nick Baker less than two minutes into the game. It was the true freshman's first career touchdown.
The first offensive drive by the Blue Hawks came to a quick end. After three offensive plays, Tech blocked the punt and punter Kyle Sanders kicked the loose ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety.
After a strong kick return from
Pat Hansen, Baker threw a deep interception on the first play of the drive.
Dickinson found some offense, but missed on a field goal try inside the red zone.
The teams exchanged possessions on a Tech punt and then linebacker
Tommy Peterson picked off the Blue Hawks inside the ten yard line.
Hansen fumbled the ball to give it back to the Blue Hawks. Quarterback Matt Harkless connected with Tanner Leak on the next play for a Dickinson touchdown. They missed the point after to make the score 9-6.
On the next drive, the Orediggers drove into the red zone and Baker connected with Bray for their second touchdown of the day.
The Orediggers expanded their lead to 16-6 with 10:32 to go in the half.
Montana Tech took over after another Dickinson punt. Freshman
Matt Berg hit a 22-yard field goal on the next drive giving Tech a 19-6 lead with 6:43 left.
The Orediggers forced another Dickinson punt. Tech drove down to the 10-yard line and Baker connected with
James Roberts for his third touchdown of the half. The touchdown was Roberts sixth of the season. Tech increased their lead to 26-6.
Montana Tech blocked their second punt of the game taking over on the seven yard line. Hansen scored on a one-yard touchdown run making it 33-6.
In the second half, the Orediggers scored the only offensive points of the half. After spoiling a fake punt by Dickinson, Berg connected on a field goal to give Tech a 36-6 lead.
Defensive back
Joe Mitzel scored on the final play of the game picking up a fumble and returning it 55 yards for a touchdown.
Tech spoils its third homecoming of the year 42-6. The Orediggers went a perfect 4-0 on homecoming games this season.
The Oredigger defense was extremely stingy recording six sacks.
Junior transfer lineback
Niall Padden had four solo tackles, four assisted and a sack.
Senior
Joe Semansky had six tackles including a sack.
Sophomore defensive lineman Jake Workman had four tackles and 1.5 sacks on the day.
Baker went 22 for 30 for 188 yards. His three touchdowns all came in the first half.
Bray the best game of his young career. The Missoula product caught five passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns.

Pat Hansen had 82 yards on the ground and one touchdown.
Tech is off next week. The next weekend the Orediggers will be in LeGrande, Oregon for a rematch against Eastern Oregon.
