Lady Diggers Win Conference Opener

Butte – It took five sets, but the Lady Diggers picked up their first conference win of the year in a single try. They downed UM-Western 22-25 26-24 25-23 22-25 15-10. This was the second time the Diggers defeated Western this year, but the first game was a non-conference match.

This is the first conference win since November 4th, 2010 for the Diggers. That game was also against Western.

The Lady Diggers improve to 11-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference. Western falls to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the Frontier.
“We grinded out a tough win,” said first year head coach Brian Solomon. “Some nerves showed tonight with some uncharacteristic errors hitting and at the service line.”

Freshman Kimmy Kavran broke the single game digs record. The Missoula Sentinel product recorded 42 digs on the night. Kavran owns three of the top five performances in digs with 40 and 32 coming in last weekend's St. Thomas Tournament.

“Kimmy gave a great performance with 42 digs, and Korey settled in around the third set and finished well.”

Sophomore Korey Krumm had 14 kills on the night. Senior Shersteen Cline chipped in 14 kills as well.

The Lady Diggers go on the road this Saturday when they travel to Lewiston, Idaho to take on the Lewis-Clark Warriors on Saturday night.
