Lady Diggers Fall to Northern

The Montana Tech women's basketball team had a tough time finding the bucket — or even getting to the free throw line — while dropping a 54-41 Frontier Conference road game to Montana State University-Northern on Friday night in Havre.

The 'Diggers (10-8, 3-3 Frontier) made just 18 of 63 field goal attempts and got just three chances from the charity stripe — all of which they converted — in falling to .500 in the league on the year.

Still, Tech led 22-15 at halftime before surrendering 39 points in a disastrous second half.

The Lights (11-7, 3-3) are now even with Tech at .500 after shooting just 36 percent themselves and hitting on 10 of their 15 free throws.

Jordan Bruursema led Northern with 13 points and added a game-high 12 rebounds, while Nikki Tresch added 11 points after going 7 for 8 at the free throw line by herself.

Tech found a bright spot in Kelsey DeWit, who scored a game-high 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting and added a team-high 10 boards. She was their only player to score in double figures.

Mandy Machinal chipped in with nine points for the Orediggers and Brooke Pokorny added seven, but the duo combined to go just 7 for 29 from the field.

Northern outrebounded Tech handily by a 47-33 margin and committed just eight fouls to Tech's 14.

Tech will next travel to struggling University of Great Falls (11-9, 1-5) on Saturday, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Argos have dropped five straight games.
