Griffins Down Diggers

Butte, Mont. – The Lady Diggers couldn't overcome tough Griffins defense Saturday night. Westminster downed Montana Tech 62-48.

The Diggers came within five with 5:38 to go in the game. Westminster would end the game with an 11-2 run to close out Tech.

Montana Tech (9-6, 2-1) picks up their first conference loss of the season as the Griffins snap a three-game win streak.

Westminster (14-2, 3-0) stays undefeated in conference play winning their sixth straight game.

The Griffins led 36-29 at the break.

Westminster shot well throughout the first half making 48.3-percent from the field and hitting 4 of 9 from beyond the arc.
The Griffins outrebounded the Diggers 18-13 in the first frame.

Montana Tech hit 40-percent from the field and was 2 of 5 from three-point in the first half.

Both teams had trouble finding the basket in the second half. Westminster shot just 26.1-percent in the second half while
Tech hit just 24-percent from the field.

Mandy Machinal led all scorers with 20 points in the game. She hit 6 of 11 from the field and 7 of 11 from the free throw line.
She added four boards and an assist to her nights totals.

Laini Kalumbi had seven points and nine rebounds.

Kelsey DeWit had eight points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Cydney Tibbitts led Westminster with 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Westminster bench scored 22 points in the game.

The Lady Diggers are on the road for their next four contests.  Tech heads to Carroll College next Thursday.
