BUTTE – Westminster showed why they are the No. 3 team in the country. The Griffins defeat the Diggers 79-58 to end the season.
Montana Tech (11-12, 7-9) just misses the Frontier Tournament with the loss and the University of Great Falls defeating Rocky at home.
Westminster (22-2, 16-0) continues to roll winning their fifteenth straight contest.
Tech stayed with the Griffins throughout the first half trading the lead nine times. Both teams shot 50 percent from the field in the first stanza ending with a 34-30 Westminster lead.
The Griffins turned up the heat in the second half outscoring Tech 45-28 while playing with discipline. They only had four turnovers in the entire game. Westminster finished the game shooting 54.5 percent from the field and 40 percent from long.
Montana Tech hit just 8 of 21 in the second half.
Kabri Emerson led the Diggers with 18 points. She scored the first 11 points for Tech in the second half. She shot 6 of 7 from the field and 4 of 5 from three. Emerson completed her second double-double of the weekend grabbing 10 rebounds.
She also had three assists and a block.
Kelsey DeWit had 12 points, three boards, two assists and a block. DeWit finishes her career at Tech as with the most blocks in school history.
Mandy Machinal was the only other Digger in double figures with 10 points.
Alli Blake led the Griffins with 21 points. Shelby Ellsworth scored 20.
The Diggers missed the Frontier Conference Tournament by just one game.
