Tech Falls to Lewis-Clark State in Five

Box Score BUTTE, Mont. - The Montana Tech volleyball team dropped their first conference match, 25-19, 25-9, 22-25, 15-25, 15-17 to the visiting Lewis-Clark State Warriors Saturday night. The Diggers, 7-8, 2-1, had a commanding 2-0 set led but dropped three straight sets to drop the match.

Leading the way for the Diggers was Sydney Norris who hit .412 percent for 17 kills along with 12 digs. While senior Korey Krumm added 11 kills and Makenzie Bauck chipped in with 26 assist.

The Warriors improve to 8-5, 3-0 on the season and were guided by Treneisha Doyle's 20 kills and Robyn Schirmer's 48 assists.

In the first set, Tech came out attacking taking an early 7-2 lead. The Digger would use the hot hand of Norris to take a 16-10 advantage. LCSC would rally back coming within five, 20-15 but it was all Tech as they went on to win the first set 25-19.

The Orediggers continued their strong attacks in the second set hitting .450 percent while holding the Warriors to -.130 percent. Tech jumped up to an early 8-1 advantage off the strong serves of Baillie Cortner. The Diggers would go on a 12-2 run to take a controlling 20-3 lead. It was all Tech from there on as they breezed to a 25-9 victory.

The third set saw a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. With the score knotted at 10, Tech used a 4-1 run taking a 14-11 advantage. The lead would not last as Lewis-Clark batted back tying up the set at 20 all. The Warriors continued to pour it on to close out the set on a 5-2 run to win.

Both squads started the fourth in similar fashion as the third. With the score tied at 7-7, the Warriors got on fire jumping to a 21-14 lead. LCSC would hold out Tech to take the 25-15 victory.

Lewis-Clark's Doyle came up huge for the Warriors hitting .500 percent with 7 kills in the final set. LCSC continued to hit hard by taking 8-5 advantage. After the two teams switched sides, Tech rallied back tying up the contest at 15 all. However the strong attack of Doyle was too much for Tech as the Warriors won the set with a score of 17-15.

Tech hits the road for a two-game swing against rival Carroll College on Sept. 24th and then takes on the Battling Bears of Rocky Mountain on Sept. 26th.
