Lady Diggers Lose Heartbreaker to No. 14 L-C State, 70-69

BUTTE, Mont. – Tech fouled Lewis-Clark State's Caelyn Orlandi as time expired and hit a free throw to give the Warriors the 70-69 victory Saturday night at the HPER.

The Lady Diggers (8-10, 0-3 Frontier) used a 23-10 run to erase an 18-point first-half deficit to start off the second half. Tech shot 58.3 percent from the field while holding L-C to just 33 percent. At the 5:44 mark, Kayla DeWit completed a three-point play to tie up the contest at 57 all. The Warriors rallied back to take the five-point advantage, 62-57, but that would be short lived as Callee Remsen and the Diggers battled back. Remsen hit back-to-back buckets to pull Tech within one. With L-C up by two with 36 seconds left, Martha Dembek grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a layup with seven seconds left to tie up the score. However a Tech called foul with no time remaining on the clock spoiled the comeback.

Mandy Machinal led four Diggers in double figures with a game-high 16 points. Kabri Emerson had her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore Hattie Thatcher played every second of the game for Tech. The 5-foot-5 guard had 10 rebounds, five assist and three points.

McKenzie Heaslet led Lewis-Clark State (15-3, 2-1 Frontier) with 14 points and three blocks.

The Lady Diggers hit the hardwood on January 22nd when they host the Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears at 5:30 p.m. at the HPER.
