BUTTE, Mont. – The red-hot Diggers shot 72.1 percent from the field on their way to an 80-57 win against rival Carroll College Saturday night in front of a sell-out crowd.
Tech jumped up to a quick 21-14 lead in the first half thanks to a three point bucket by
Chase Haack. The Diggers would continue to pour it on going up by nine, 31-22 with 3:49 remaining after an
Antonio Snow layup. Tech lead would slowing diminish as the Fighting Saints lived up to their name fighting back with a 11-2 run to close out the first half. Carroll's Nick Williams hit a fade-away jump as time expired in the first half to give the Saints the 34 to 33 edge.
In the second half it was all Montana Tech. Sophomore
Paul Engstrom hit the first basket in the second half to give Tech the 35-34 lead and the Diggers never looked back. The Copper and Green would get the hot hand and go up by as many as 24 in the second stanza on their way to the 80-57 victory.
The Diggers (13-6, 4-1 Frontier) had four players in double figures. Senior
Adam Greger led the way with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
Antonio Snow added 18 points while Haack and
Brandon Rydberg contributed with 10 each.
Tech is back in action on Thursday Jan. 29 when they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to face Westminster College.
