Box Score BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech Orediggers women's basketball team held off a late rally by the University of Calgary Dinos in their final nonconference game of the season. Montana Tech wins 71-62.
After trailing by 14 at the break, the Dinos scored the first eight points of the half and completed an 11-3 run before the Orediggers started to find their offense. The
Dinos would get within one with 10:29 left in the game, but the rest of the half was all Orediggers.
The Orediggers snapped a three game skid and start the conference season with an 8-7 record.
Tech overcame poor shooting in the victory. The team hit 33.3 percent from the field and 24.1 percent from beyond the arc. The team had been shooting 41 percent from the field and 33 percent from three on the season.
Tech had three in double-digits led by sophomore
Hattie Thatcher. Thatcher finished with 15 points in the game hitting 5 of 9 from the field and 4 of 7 from the free throw line. She also had four assists, a steal and a rebound.
Mandy Machinal had 14 points, seven steals, five rebounds, and three assists.
Martha Dembeck had 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Claire Colborne led Calgary with a game-high 16 points on 5 of 11 shooting. She added six rebounds, three steals and two assists to her totals.
Kelsey Lund had 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting and six rebounds.
Montana Tech starts the conference season in Havre next Friday against the Montana State Northern Lights.
