HAVRE, Mont. – The Montana Tech men's basketball team shot 55.8 percent from the field on their win to a 76-67 victory over Montana State University-Northern Friday night.
Tech (10-5, 1-0 Frontier) now have their longest win streak (6) since the 1998-99 season. Senior Antoino Snow led all scores with 19.
Adam Greger and
Paul Engstrom added 18 and 10 respectively. Transfer
Chase Haack added nine points and a game- and career-high 10 rebounds.
Northern (10-6, 0-1 Frontier) was led by Nicholas Blount who had a team-high 17 points.
Tech came out firing away early in the first half jumping to a 6-0 lead. The Lights rallied back pulling within one at 11-10. MSU-N took a 20-19 lead midway through the half, but an
Adam Greger two-hand slam gave Tech the lead and momentum. Tech held a two-point advantage late in the half but the Lights drew several fouls to take the 37-32 lead at the half.
The Diggers started the second half with a 7-0 run taking a 39-37 early in the half. The Diggers stayed dialed in jumping to a 49-40 lead thanks to a jumper by
Brandon Rydberg forcing Lights coach Shawn Huse to call a timeout. Northern pulled within five at 49-44 but
Trent Thompson and the Diggers were un-phased as Thompson's put-back layup with 9:58 remaining gave the Diggers their largest lead of the game at 10 (56-46). Tech's defense continued to put pressure on the Lights holding MSU-N to just 23.8 percent shooting in the half.
The Diggers continue conference play when they head to Great Falls to battle the Argos Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
