Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho— The one-two punch of
Cruz Ginns Jr. and
Jalen Coates wasn't enough to snap College of Idaho's 36 game home winning streak as Montana Tech fell 98-90 Friday night.
Cruz Ginns Jr. led Montana Tech with 28 points while
Jalen Coates pitched in 24. Ginns Jr. was a fantastic 14-of-14 from the free throw line. Coates was 4-of-6 from downtown for the Diggers.
Montana Tech trailed the Yotes 40-36 at halftime.
College of Idaho led by eight points with 12:07 in the second half before
Akeem Williams knocked down a deep triple taking the lead down to five, 62-57.
After College of Idaho built their lead back up to 11 points
Jalen Coates knocked down a long three ball and made a nifty layup in traffic to put the Diggers back within six, 73-67.
Coates wasn't done however as he connected on another three pointer putting the Diggers down just one, 76-75, with 5:25 left to play.
Later in the half, with Montana Tech trailing 87-84,
Akeem Williams threw up a three point prayer as the shot clock expired and made it to cut the deficit to three points. Williams was 3-for-3 from downtown in the second half.
College of Idaho connected on two free throws and a layup giving COI a 91-84 lead with two minutes left.
Williams hit two free throws with 1:09 on the clock to shrink the College of Idaho lead down to 91-86.
After a few trips to the free throw line, Montana Tech was down 94-87 with 21.1 seconds left before
Jalen Coates hit a three ball.
College of Idaho's free throws down the stretch would stretch the lead to 98-90.
Montana Tech shot 48.4 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from the field in the losing effort. A total of 54 fouls were whistled in the contest. The Orediggers finished the
game 27-for-32 from the free throw line.
Montana Tech falls to 5-1 on the season and will take on Eastern Oregon tomorrow night at 5 PM MST.
