Tech Basketball Signs Helena's Shein

BUTTE, Mont. – Montana Tech Head Basketball Coach Patrick O'Herron announced the signing of Ragen Shein today for the 2016-2017 season.  Ragen will join the Oredigger's in the fall of 2016 as a freshman.

"It's great for our program to sign a player of Ragen's ability this early in the year," stated Coach O'Herron. "He was first team All-State last year and I feel he is the best front court player in Montana.  He has tremendous physical tools and a huge upside for growth in the game.  We are thrilled that Ragen has chosen to become an Oredigger!"

Shein, a 6-foot-6 forward starts his senior year at Helena High School at the end of the month.  As a junior, Shein averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks earning All-State and first team All-Conference honors. The Helena native also shot 47 percent from the field.

"I chose Montana Tech because of its strong academic programs as well as Butte's strong sense of community," said Shein. "I also respect both Coach O'Herron and Coach Cline's honesty and look forward to the opportunity to be an Oredigger."

Ragen, the son of Rhett and Aimee, has also maintained a 3.0 grade point average at Helena High.

"Ragen is a unique player in that he is a big that can play inside and out," said Coach Hollow from Helena. "I'm very happy for Ragen, all the hours spent working on his craft have come to fruition and he is going to get the opportunity to continue his career at the next level following his senior season.  I think Montana Tech will be a great fit for Ragen both academically and athletically."
