Digger Rewind
Tech went 1-3 last weekend at the Five Points Bank Invitational in Hastings, Nebraska. The Diggers faced three teams who were ranked or received votes in the Top 25. Tech beat Peru State 3-1 to open the tournament before falling to host and 19th-ranked Hastings College on day one. The second day of the tournament did not fare well for the Orediggers as they dropped both matches to No. 4 Midland University and Concordia University.
Junior Jordan Danz led the way totaling 51 kills on the tournament. Setter Makenzie Bauck averaged 36.8 assists per match while libero Angie Pancost added 71 total digs.
Tech in the Polls
For the second straight week the Diggers have been ranked in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Orediggers fell to No. 23 following a tough weekend on the road.
Scouting the Battlin' Bears
The 10-4 Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears are coming off of a bye week. RMC went 2-2 at a tournament in Nebraska over Labor Day weekend.
Middle Mariah Stiffarm leads the way for RMC as the senior had 193 kills and a team-high 70 blocks on the season.
Last Time Out
Rocky defeated Tech 3-1 in a Frontier Conference semi-finals matchup in Butte last season. Jordan Danz had 16 kills and a .324 hitting percentage to led the Diggers. Senior Annie Smoot added 13 kills while Makenzie Bauck added 42 assists, four kills and a block.
Scouting the Warriors
The preseason Frontier Conference favorites and preseason No. 23 L-C State Warriors currently sit at 7-6 to start the 2015 season. The Warriors went 1-1 last week against two NCAA Division III foes in Whitworth University and Whitman College. L-C fell to Whitworth 3-0 then rebounded with a sweep of Whitman College.
All-Around player Kennadie Clute leads the Warriors with 157 kills, 81 digs, 19 blocks and 11 service aces.
Last Time Out
The Orediggers dropped the five-set decision in Lewiston. Senior Korey Krumm had a match-high 19 kills while hitting .613 on the night. Sydney Norris and Bailie Cortner added 10 kills apiece while Makenzie Bauck handed out 45 assists.
