Live VideoBUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech volleyball team, who are off to its best start since the 2012 season, heads to Salina, Kansas this weekend for the Kansas Wesleyan University Labor Day Tournament.
Last Time OutThe 7-2 Diggers are coming off of a 4-1 weekend at the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge. Tech's lone loss came against the College of Idaho Yotes who were picked to finish second in the Cascade Conference.
Bailie Cortner had a stellar tournament hitting .455 along with 44 kills. The junior also had 10.5 blocks in the tournament. Senior
Sydney Norris also had a great tournament totaling 41 kills, 44 digs and back-to-back double-doubles. Setter and Frontier Conference assists leader
Makenzie Bauck averaged 10 assists per set.
OpponentsMcPherson College – Sept. 5 – 11:00 am: Tech opens up the tournament against McPherson College (Kan.) (2-1). The Bulldogs are coming off of a 1-3 loss in their Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) opener against Bethany College. Senior middle Taryn Lee is leading the way for McPherson totaling 44 kills while hitting .320 along with a team-beast 9.5 blocks.
Friends University – Sept. 5 – 3:30 pm: The Diggers second match will be against Friends University (1-1). The Falcons opened up KCAC play with a sweep over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday. Junior Megan Bohn posted a team-high 17 kills while Jennie Kinsella had a career-high 35 assists. The Falcons lone loss came of top-ranked Park University in their season opener.
Briar Cliff University – Sept. 6 – 11:30 am: Montana Tech's third match will be against the Briar Cliff University Chargers. The Chargers were picked to finish sixth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. BCU is currently 3-1 on the season with two wins over teams that received votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll. The Chargers fell to 24
th-ranked University of Jamestown in their final match of the Red Raider Classic last weekend.
(RV) Kansas Wesleyan University – Sept. 6 – 6:00 pm: The final match in the tournament for the Diggers will be against host Kansas Wesleyan University. The Coyotes, who received votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll, were picked to finish first in the KCAC. KWU is 1-5 on the season after coming from behind to beat University of Saint Mary 3-2 on Wednesday. Senior Jori Mote leads the way for the Coyotes with a team-high 53 kills and a total of 63 points.
