BUTTE, MT- No. 9 Montana Tech struck fast and cruised by rival Carroll College 34-15 at Bob Green Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Orediggers (5-1) jumped on the Saints early taking a 14-0 advantage in the first quarter.
After forcing a quick three and out from the Saints to start the game Montana Tech went down the field to score on the opening drive. Wide receiver
Dion Williams caught a pair of touchdown passes from six and 39 yards out to put the Diggers out in front.
Williams caught seven passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns.
Montana Tech added to their lead in the second quarter with a
Derrick Holt 31-yard field goal to put the Orediggers up 17-0 at the break.
The Diggers scored again on the first possession of the second half connecting on a 35-yard Holt field goal.
Nolan Saraceni hit his stride on Montana Tech's next possession busting loose for an 85-yard touchdown run. The senior finished the day with 153 rushing yards on 24 carries and the touchdown.
The Saints got on the board with a 12 yard touchdown pass to Connor Fohn shrinking the Montana Tech lead to 27-8.
In the fourth quarter,
Quinn McQueary added to his already excellent outing with a three yard touchdown run. McQueary completed 17-of-24 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 41 yards and a score on the ground.
A late Carroll touchdown from Tanner Gustavsen to Fohn from 52 yards out made it a 34-15 final.
The Orediggers were led defensively by
Andre Brown who registered 8 tackles,
Nic Amestoy who had 6 tackles including two tackles for loss, and
Brock Polley who had 5 tackles and a sack.
Montana Tech sacked the Fighting Saints QBs five times and held Carroll to 59 yards rushing.
Gunnar Kayser snagged his fourth interception of the year as well for the Diggers.
The Orediggers will travel to Havre next weekend to take on the Northern Lights at 1 PM.
