BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana Tech flexed their muscles on both sides of the ball for the second week in a row. The Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears were on the receiving end of a 62-10 pounding.
The No. 7 Orediggers (7-1) have scored 125 points the past two weeks, doing most of the work in the first half.
Quinn McQueary started the scoring barrage with a 10 yard strike to
Mitchell Keeton to cap an 81-yard drive to open the game.
Nolan Saraceni scored his first touchdown of the half on Tech's next possession. After a Rocky punt pinned the Orediggers at their own 6 yard line, Saraceni broke loose for a 95 yard touchdown run on the second play of the drive. The lengthy sprint is the longest of the season for Saraceni and second longest of his career. The All-American rusher finished the game with 197 yards on 14 carries reaching the end zone three times. He also scored from 67 yards out in the second half.
Tech's lead reached 28-0 in the second quarter on a short Saraceni run and a 60 yard passing touchdown from McQueary to junior
Chris Kelly.
Rocky got on the board in the second quarter with a field goal, but the Orediggers held the Bears to just 105 yards of offense in the first half.
McQueary found tight end
Kolby Kansala twice for touchdowns from 48 and 4 yards out at the end of the second quarter to take a 41-3 score into the locker room at the half. Kansala finished the game with three catches for 66 yards.
Rocky scored first in the second half on running back Mason Melby's 11 yard run. It would be the last time a Bear made it into the end zone. Melby had 55 yards on the day on 13 rushing attempts.
The Orediggers had four interceptions led by senior
Gunnar Kayser grabbed two passes from Rocky's Jacob Bakken. Kayser now has six picks on the year. Defensive backs
Andre Brown and
Daniel Van Dyke had the other two interceptions.
Tech wide receiver
Mitchell Keeton caught two more touchdowns in the second half. A 25 yards pass from McQueary and a 14 yard strike from freshman transfer
Danny Peoples gave the senior wide out a career high three touchdown receptions on the day. Keeton finished with five catches for 107 yards.
McQueary completed 13-of-20 for 278 yards and a career high five touchdowns.
Linebackers
Drew Schleeman and
Jacob Clarke led the defense with seven tackles each. Kayser had six tackles on the day.
Defensive lineman
Brock Beede and
Tyler Sanders combined for a sack.
Brock Polley had the only other sack for the Diggers.
Bakken went 19-of-41 for 200 yards and four picks for the Bears.
Montana Tech returns home next weekend for Senior Day. The Orediggers host College of Idaho at noon at Alumni Coliseum.
